These forts had various features like the palaces for kings, queens and the royal family, the training places for the armies, the stables for horses, the jails or prisons, step-wells markets, and various other facilities. Another beauty that is witnessed within these forts till date is the magnificent artwork on stones and walls by the artists of that era. This culture of safeguarding the territory by constructing forts started from medieval India, the time when the Mughals ruled in India.
